Don earned a bachelor of science degree in Business Management from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. His professional career spanned several decades in retail with Halle Brothers in Cleveland, Ohio and Pizitz in Birmingham, Alabama. He owned and operated Kay's Clothing Store in Jasper, Alabama before retiring to care for his wife Ann, who had numerous health issues.
Don was a member of Mountain Brook Presbyterian Church, where he was a deacon and an usher, and Altadena Valley Country Club. In his leisure, he enjoyed golf, keeping an immaculate lawn, reading, and crossword puzzles.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his wife, Annette Baltzell DeHaven, whom he married on July 4, 1959; his brother, Dick DeHaven; and four stillborn children.
Survivors include Don's son and daughter: Bob DeHaven (Rhonda) and Debbie DeHaven Brock (Tom); his grandchildren, who knew him as "Grumpy": Alex DeHaven (Haley), Madison DeHaven, Jake Scott (Jordan), Rachel Ivey (Will), Chelsea Brock (Kip), and Lindsey Hilner (Jason); great-grandchildren, Beckham Scott, Sutton Scott, Jett Ivey, Van Hilner and Violet Hilner; and sisters-in-law, Belinda Steiner (Carl) and Bette DeHaven.
A celebration of Don's life will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at Goshen United Methodist Church in Piedmont, Alabama.
