Fletcher served four years in the U.S. Army as a medical specialist, including a tour in Germany. Later, he earned his undergraduate degree from Auburn University before receiving his Master Degree in Social Work from Florida State University and his Doctorate in Psychology from the University of Alabama.
Fletcher's professional career spanned more than 30 years as a clinical psychologist in private practice in the Birmingham area. He was a member of the American Psychological Association, Delta Epsilon Fraternity, and First Christian Church. In his leisure time he enjoyed spending time with his family, pickleball, tennis, going to the beach, and Auburn football. He was an avid animal lover and his dog Bear and cat Sam will always hold a special place in his heart.
Fletcher is survived by his wife, Sandra McQueen Hamilton, to whom he was wed on August 28, 1965; two daughters, Kristina Humphries (Bryan) and Susan Collier; grandchildren, Allie Eady Hamilton (Paul), Sara Evans (Bradley), Laura Meredith, Douglas Meredith, Anna Eady, and J.B. Collier; and four great-grandsons.
Visitation will be Monday, July 29, 2024 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama from 1-2 p.m., followed by A Service of Remembrance for Fletcher at 2 p.m. at Ridout's Southern Heritage. The family will resume greeting friends at the funeral home after the service Monday.
