Charles Harris Pearce was born in Yazoo County, Mississippi on March 14, 1931. He was the son of farmer James Monroe Pearce and Willie Kate Porch Pearce. Charles attended Junior College at nearby Holmes Community College, where he was a member of their 1950 championship football team. The Korean War cut Charles’s college career short. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served for four years aboard the oil tanker USS Chemung and was assigned to the Seventh Fleet, spending time off the coast of Korea and Japan during the war. Upon leaving the navy, he attended Mississippi State University, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. Charles married Dorothy Mae (Chesnut) Pearce on May 27, 1954. After college, they moved to Birmingham, Alabama, where Charles worked at Southern Company Services until his retirement December 1, 1986 at age 55. His hobbies included fishing, golfing, and watching sporting events. He remained in Birmingham until his passing at age 93 on June 13, 2024. His wife, Dorothy Mae Pearce, passed on October 14, 2018 at the age of 87. Charles will be cremated then buried in Jefferson Memorial Cemetery in Trussville, Alabama next to his wife Dorothy. Charles is survived by his son, Jeffrey Alan Pearce, his daughter, Kimberly Dawn Alexander, and his granddaughters Ellie Rebecca (Pearce) Anderson and Alaina Kate Pearce.
