He was born on December 3, 1932, to Charles and Madonna Ewing in Prescott, Arizona.
Chuck graduated from St. John’s Military Academy in California. He attended Kansas University graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Business. He was a Reserve Commissioned Officer in the Army. He went back to school for an additional degree from the University of Alabama in Birmingham (UAB) in philosophy. In early years he was a salesman for Hallmark Cards Inc. and was employed by the Federal Government and served as an administrator for North Alabama. He enjoyed his last employment the most, as a manager for the Radio Reading Service – a side band of WHBM for the visually impaired. He gave numerous speeches and talks on behalf of the Station.
He was beloved by his family and friends. Chuck was an avid gun collector who won numerous State and Regional trap and pistol shooting awards as recently as 2000. He was adventurous, loved parachuting and was a private pilot. He had a passion for learning and was always busy.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Ann Oakley Ewing, his children: Charles Randall Ewing, Kathleen Ann Ewing Shelton, Susan Ewing Freeland, Lara Ewing Musulman and Oakley Charles Ewing. He is survived by several grandchildren: Marcia Elizabeth Shelton, Christy Shelton Haight, Jenni Marie Freeland, James Chadwick Freeland, Charles Andrew Musulman, Charles Ryan Thomas Ewing, Anna Kathleen Musulman, Charles Logan Ewing and Kathleen Elaine Ewing. He also leaves behind a great grandson, Zane Benjamin Haight.
There will be a Celebration of Life service later.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Disease research.
