Catherine Wenger Ray

Catherine Wenger Ray, age 94, of Cumming, Georgia, passed away Friday, March 8, 2019. Catherine was born in Birmingham, Alabama where she lived until she relocated to Cumming, Georgia ten years ago. Catherine was a life long member of First United Methodist Church, Birmingham, Alabama; and after moving to Georgia, regularly attended Browns Bridge Community Church. Catherine was a member of Theo Osborn Chapter 384, Order of the Eastern Star, and a Past Worthy Matron.

Catherine was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, William Clinton “Preacher” Ray and her grandson Marshall Christian Wilder. She is survived by her son James Donald Ray of Garland, Texas, her daughter, Cathy Ray Wilder (David) of Cumming, Georgia, and her three grandchildren, Johnny Wilder, Shelby Wilder, and Sam Wilder.

Catherine was an incredible woman and a friend to many. She was overly generous in all aspects of life and a true joy to be around. Catherine lived life to the fullest and made countless memories with her husband and family. Catherine was an avid fan of “The University” of Alabama, and loved watching PGA Tour Golf.

The family of Catherine Wenger Ray, would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the doctors and friends that helped Catherine through these 94 years. Fabor Hospice was especially kind and helpful in assisting Catherine and our family over the past five weeks.

Catherine will be laid to rest alongside her husband, William Clinton Ray in the Masonic Garden of Jefferson Memorial Gardens (Hoover, Alabama).

Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 12, 2019 from 10:00am to 11:00am at Southern Heritage Funeral Home (Pelham, Alabama), with the funeral and graveside services to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a memorial be sent to Make-A-Wish.

There will never come a day that we will not think of you, and how you have impacted so many lives with your love and generosity. Fort Lauderdale won’t be the same without you and Daddy. You will be greatly missed Mama, have fun fishing with Daddy.
