Carolyn Frances Jukoski Smith, age 79, of Vestavia Hills, Alabama passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2024. She was born in Memphis, Tennessee on February 18, 1944 to Alexander Peter and Anna Frances Wood Jukoski.
The family moved to Jacksonville, North Carolina after Carolyn's father was transferred to Camp LeJeune Marine Corp Base. After graduating from high school, Carolyn attended East Carolina University. She then moved to Charlotte, North Carolina and started working for Liberty National Life Insurance Company. It was there that she met the love of her life, Connie Mack Smith, and they married in Jackson, Mississippi in 1968.
In 1972, Carolyn and Connie Mack moved to Vicksburg, Mississippi and while there Carolyn worked for All Saints Episcopal School making lifelong friends. In 1984, her husband was transferred to the Birmingham, Alabama area and they remained there ever since.
Carolyn worked for Mutual of New York Insurance Co. for many years until her retirement. She then cared for her husband who had become disabled, until his death in 2009.
Most recently, Carolyn lived at Town Village in Vestavia Hills where she had made many later-in-life friends who diligently called and prayed for her during her hospitalization.
Carolyn was a tender hearted, kind, caring person who loved the Lord and her family deeply. She was also an animal lover, caring for many stray dogs and cats through the years.
Carolyn was raised in the Catholic faith and later in life joined Church of the Highlands, Riverchase Campus. During her time at Town Village, she attended weekly services led by Brother Pat and enjoyed singing gospel hymns.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brother, Philip Alexander Jukoski; and her step-daughter, Susan Smith Anderson.
She is survived by her daughter, Camille Smith Morgan (Neal); her brother, John Stephen Jukoski; her grandchildren, Holt Smith Morgan and Anna Hope Morgan; step-grandchildren, Nicole Anderson, Connie Anderson Simon (Matt), Neal Morgan, Mari Morgan, and Jack Morgan; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Carolyn will be Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 11 a.m. at the chapel at Town Village, 2385 Dolly Ridge Road, Vestavia Hills, AL 35243. A private graveside service will be at Southern Heritage Cemetery in Pelham, Alabama at a later date.
