Carolyn will be remembered by family and friends as a radiant, joyful, and loving individual who everybody wanted to be around. Shortly after moving to Vestavia Hills about seven years ago, she founded Construction Property Group LLC, her home renovation and property development company. The many ways she showed her passionate support for her community included her selection to the Leadership Vestavia Hills team.
Carolyn was proudest, however, of her active involvements as a Daisy Scout mom, Cub Scout mom, Brownie mom, and basketball coach for her two young children. She also was actively involved with her children at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Hoover, Alabama, where she was a religious education teacher. She was an expert equestrian in dressage and cross country and hunter jumper competitions. Her other pastimes included snow skiing and playing golf.
Carolyn was predeceased by her father, William Forbes Mathieson. She will be deeply missed by her son Reif, daughter Pepper, Reif and Pepper's father Bart Bedford, mother Kathy Mathieson Hillary, brothers Michael and Christopher Mathieson, and step-siblings Caitlin Hillary Moulding, Shaun Hillary Jr., Caroline Hillary, and Matthew Hillary. Carolyn also leaves behind aunts and uncles, James and Sandy Foster, Mary Jo Callaway, Bernie and Patricia Paige, Elizabeth Esper, June and Jim Plastow, and Barry Plastow; along with several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will be from 2:30 p.m. until the 3 p.m. Funeral Mass on Sunday, January 8, 2017 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, 2061 Patton Chapel Road, Birmingham, AL 35216. Pastor Rev. Thomas M. Kelly will officiate. Everyone is invited to the reception at the church Sunday immediately after the Mass.
