Bill D. Evans (Billie) from Vestavia Hills, Alabama, 90, passed away from a long battle with cancer on October 6, 2023. Bill was born in Meridian, Mississippi on November 6, 1932. His family later moved to Mobile, Alabama where he spent his younger years growing up. Bill attended Murphy High School where he was a member of the National Honor Society, a member of the DeMolay, and graduated from Auburn University with a BS degree in electrical engineering. He was a member of the Alpha Gamm Rho fraternity while attending Auburn and became a captain in the United States Army. He met his beautiful wife JoAnne while attending the university. They were married on April 14, 1956.
He then began his career in the telecommunications industry, working for Southern Bell, South Central Bell, and Bell South, (now AT&T). He held positions in engineering, marketing, planning, and information systems, where he was the pioneer leader in the planning, design, and deployment of advanced major computer-based systems and data communications systems and technology in the corporation's multi state corporations. He was a life member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. He retired from Bell South Communications in 1991. He enjoyed traveling with his family, photography, and sports. Mr. Evans believes in helping others through life's journey. He has created scholarships at Auburn University, Samford University, and Dawson Memorial Baptist Church to help those who are seeking a degree in higher education. He was active in his church serving in many support functions. Including usher/greeting, photography, media, and many other services. He will be remembered for his love for others, his incredible intellect, and his deep love for his wife JoAnne, and the proud father of his daughter Allyson.
Bill is preceded in death by his sister, Nell Evans; his parents, WW Evans, Jeff Humphrey Davis (his stepfather, a wonderful role model); mother, Ella Maida Evans; his daughter, Allyson Lynn Evans Roebuck, and his wife JoAnne Cobb Evans.

A visitation for Bill will be held Thursday, October 12, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM at Southern Heritage Funeral Home, 475 Cahaba Valley Road, Pelham, AL 35124 followed by a graveside service at 10:30 am at Southern Heritage Cemetery. The memorial service will be on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church.
