Mrs. Bettye Strong, 87 of Vestavia Hills,passed peacefully away Wednesday October 17, 2018 surrounded by her loved ones. Bettye was born in Carbon Hill and graduated from Birmingham Southern College in 1953 where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha. She then taught 8th grade English in Ensley. She was a long-time member of Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church. She loved crafts: sewing, knitting, needle point and pottery. She was a dedicated Bridge player. She worked as a long-time volunteer with The Assistance League of Birmingham, the ASO Decorator Show House and the Medical Auxiliary and served terms of President or Chairwoman of all three. Mrs. Strong is preceded in death by her devoted husband of 63 years Dr. Jack Berry Strong, Jr. her parents; Adelbert Edward Bradley, Sr. and Odie Self Bradley; her two bothers Adelbert Edward Bradley, Jr. and James Knight Bradley. She is survived by her loving children, Jim (Theresa) Strong, Matthew Strong, Ted (Christy) Strong, Jacqueline Strong; and grandchildren : Christopher Strong, Daniel Strong, Morgan Murphy, Amy Strong, Virginia Strong, Jack Strong and Robby Strong. The celebration of Bettye's life will be Thursday October 25, 2018 at Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church. Visitation will be at noon with the memorial service beginning at 1pm. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Alzheimer's Association of America.
