Betty Ann Owen Henderson was born on January 22, 1936, to Agnes Chapman Owen and Sanford John Owen in Bessemer, Alabama. She received her high school education at Jones Valley High School in Birmingham, Al.
Betty Ann Owen was united in marriage to the love of her life, Jack Eugene Henderson, on September 2, 1959 in Birmingham AL. Childhood sweethearts, Betty and Jack met at an ice cream social at Broadmoor Baptist church in Lipscomb, Alabama, where Jack's father preached. Betty would go on to say she changed her denomination that day from a Methodist to a Baptist. The two went their separate ways but later reacquainted, married and raised their family together for 36 years until Jack's passing.
She retired from Liberty National Life Insurance where she worked in Agency Records.
A loving mother, grandmother and great- grandmother, Betty enjoyed her time with her family, especially attending her children's and grandchildren's events. She loved traveling with her husband to the Caribbean, Hawaii, Alaska, New Orleans and the gulf coast to name a few. She also traveled with her children on many family vacations. In her later years, she traveled with the Senior ministry at Lakeside Baptist Church in Hoover, Alabama where she was a member for 57 years. She was an avid reader, master of many crossword puzzles and a trivia enthusiast, rarely missing an episode of Jeopardy. Betty was an excellent seamstress, making many school and halloween costumes along with numerous Easter outfits. She also enjoyed following her beloved Atlanta Braves.
Betty Ann Henderson was preceded in death by her husband Jack Eugene Henderson, her parents Sanford John and Agnes Chapman Owen, and her sister Frances Owen Swann.
She is survived by her children, Sherry Henderson Franks (Tim), Michael Wayne Poe, Vicki Henderson Prichard, Carey Alan Henderson; Her grandchildren, Kimberly Lokey, Kathryn Lokey Hall (Nathan), Justin Lokey ( Kayla), Ashley Prichard, Bradley Prichard (Jill), Carley Prichard King (Andrew), Tyler Henderson ( Ashley); Great Grandchildren, Lilly Hall, Laney Hall, Mason Prichard; Sister, Linda Owen White and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Southern Heritage Funeral Home on May 10th at 10:00 AM with the funeral service at 11:00 AM at Southern Heritage. Graveside service to follow.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America ( alzfdn.org) in the name of Betty Henderson.
