Genny was born on June 22, 1947, in Live Oak, Florida, to Pauline Delores Summers Bailey and Rufus Webster Bailey. She was a graduate of Suwannee High School and North Florida Junior College before marrying the love of her life, Charles Edward "Chuck" Shirah, on March 23, 1968, at Mary Belle Baptist Church in Live Oak.
A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Genny balanced her family life with a fulfilling career. She took great pride in her work as the secretary at Demopolis First United Methodist Church and her many years with Scott Machinery in Helena. For over 25 years, she was a faithful member of Helena Methodist Church, where her warm presence and giving spirit touched many lives.
Known for her love of hosting and entertaining, Genny had a gift for making everyone feel welcome. Her home was always filled with laughter, delicious food, and impeccably coordinated table settings. She especially cherished the Christmas season, adorning her home with festive decorations and celebrating with holiday outfits, jewelry, and good cheer. Her warmth and generosity created cherished memories for all who knew her.
Genny is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Chuck; her daughters, Julie Shirah and Cindy Compton (Greg); her grandchildren, Bailey and Delaney Compton; her sister, Phyllis Bailey; and her brother, Bo Bailey. She is preceded in death by her parents, Pauline and Rufus Bailey.
A Celebration of Genny's Life Service will be Thursday, December 19, 2024 at Helena Methodist Church at 6 p.m. CST, followed by a dinner reception at the church.
Genny will be laid to eternal rest in her hometown of Live Oak, Florida after the graveside service at Live Oak City Cemetery at 3 p.m. EST on Monday, December 23, 2024.
