Born January 6, 1965 in Pekin, he was the son of Frank William and Dorothy Irene (Berchtold) Hopkins. He married his beloved wife, Carla Diver Hopkins on May 16, 1987 in Pekin. She survives.
Also surviving are his sisters, LuAnn (Tom) Pierce and Christy (Cecil) Broomfield, both of Pekin; one cousin, Marsie (Jim) Lambert of Pekin; one nephew, Allen (Amy Rakow) Hopkins, of Pekin; three nieces, Skyler Broomfield, Elizabeth (Cory) Sharp, and Chelsea Garrison, all of Pekin; four sisters-in-law, Catherine (Richard) Garrison, Laurie Hill, and Margie Wagner, all of Pekin, and Amanda Cantley of Alabama; and three brothers-in-law, George Michael Diver of Colorado and Les and Don Schultz of Pekin.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Working in transportation his entire career, he found his preferred occupation as a bus driver for the Pekin School District for at least ten years. During his time driving, he would often sing to the kids who will dearly miss him.
Bill was a member of the Teamsters & Chauffers Union Local 627. He played on a softball league and participated regularly in the Special Olympics, and went on to compete in the World Games. He loved the Chicago Cubs and Bears, NASCAR, and enjoyed sports in general. Bill was often found hunting deer, fishing or riding his motorcycle.
A gathering celebrating Bill’s life will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Central Life Church, 1100 Hamilton Street, Pekin, Illinois 61554. Pastor Keith Moore will officiate.
Cremation has been accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
