Born November 19, 1942 in Pekin to John Eugene “Gene” and Hazel Elizabeth (Reader) Irving, he married Holly J. Haas on December 17, 1965 in Pekin. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Lance E. (Tammi) Irving of Pekin and Aaron D. (Amie) Irving of Groveland and three grandchildren, Camiryn E. (Josh Beard) Irving, Gage F. Irving and Grayce A. Irving.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mary Hohimer.
Wilbur was a 1961 graduate of Illini Bluffs High School.
He worked at Keystone Steel & Wire Company in Bartonville for 40 years, retiring in 2002. In retirement, Wilbur enjoyed buying, remodeling and selling homes.
Wilbur’s passion was duck hunting. He was an avid duck decoy carver, restorer and collector. He was a member of the North American Decoy Collector Association and Ducks Unlimited and he enjoyed traveling to auctions and decoy shows. Wilbur had the qualities of patience and dedication which are apparent in his beautiful and intricate decoys. His passion for hunting, fishing and enjoying the great outdoors was inspiring to his children and grandchildren who will enjoy and carry on that tradition in tribute to him.
No services or visitation are planned. Cremation has been accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
Wilbur was also known as a dog whisperer. Therefore, memorial contributions may be made to Tazewell Animal Protective Society, 100 Taps Lane, Pekin, IL 61554.
