Born March 14, 1952 in San Francisco, California to John and Joan (Oechsle) Mullen, she married Bill Thompson on March 14, 1981 in Hopedale. He survives.
Also surviving are two children, Heather (Chris) Hardt and Adam Thompson, both of Pekin; four grandchildren, Cohen Hardt, Brinley Moore, Avery Thompson and Logan Thompson; two brothers, Patrick (Cheryl) Mullen of Mansfield, Ohio and Denny Mullen of Pekin; one sister, Jennifer (Ernie) Massart of Attica, Ohio; her best-friend, Liz Lurz; many nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one niece, Jessica Holderby and her best-friend, Judy Bixler.
Vikki was a graduate of the University of Illinois where she received her Master of Social Work. She worked as a social worker for many years, taking time early in her career to be a homemaker and care for her children. She later returned to social work, working for several organizations under Tazewell County Resource Center Inc. including the Miller Home, the Holiday Center. Vikki was also the director at the Good Beginnings Children’s Home Association.
She served as president of the PTA for her children’s grade school for several years and was also “Picture Person” at their school where she introduced Art & Art history to the students in special presentations. Her children’s classmates to this day remember her from her presentations.
Vikki served on the Children’s Advocacy Board and received one of the 25 Women in Leadership Awards in 2012.
She enjoyed going to trivia, listening to audio books, watching Big Brother among other reality TV shows. Vikki was a history buff, and loved the Beatles (George Harrison specifically). She was an artist and many of her paintings and artwork are proudly displayed in her family’s home. She loved her children and grandchildren and spending time with family. Anyone who came to her home she considered family.
Her memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, October 4, 2024 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, October 3, 2024 at the funeral home.
