Born January 14, 1933 in Pekin to George W. and Effie J. (Kuerr) Oates, he married Dorothy Faye Smith on November 6, 1954 at Fort Meyer in Arlington, Virginia. She died April 19, 2009. He was also preceded in death by his parents; one brother, George, Jr.; and one nephew, Curtis.
He is survived by one son, Michael E. Oates of Morton and one sister, Norma J. Rebuffoni of Pekin.
He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War. While in the military, Bud was proud to have been a part of the honor guard at Arlington National Cemetery.
He was a 1951 graduate of Pekin Community High School and then attended Illinois Central College.
Bud worked as a meat cutter for over 40 years, retiring in 1995. He spent time working as meat cutter in California for 5 year, at Morton Super Foods for 10 years and at A & P Stores throughout Central Illinois for 18 years.
Bud was elected and served as a North Pekin Village Trustee for 12 years and served 23 years on the Persons with Developmental Disabilities Board for Tazewell County.
He attended Faith Baptist Church in Pekin.
His graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin. Pastor Timothy Collard will officiate. Military rites will be accorded by the United States Army and American Legion Post 2 in Peoria. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
