Born March 9, 1946 in Pekin to Robert and Betty (Poppenga) Barr, he married Lisa Margaret Filarski on February 25, 1983 in Pekin. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Denise (Danny Adkins) Barr of Greenview and Dawn (Tony Eigenbrod) Barr of San Jose; five sons, Timothy (Kim) Barr of Green Valley, Ted (Michele) Barr of Marquette Heights, August Barr, Aaron Barr and Alex Barr, all of Pekin; eight grandchildren, Ashley (Matt) Curry of Greenview, Allison Eigenbrod of San Jose, Shane Barr of North Pekin, Makenzie Barr of Marquette Heights, Jon Eigenbrod of San Jose, Madison Barr of Marquette Heights, Ella Eigenbrod of San Jose and Riley Barr of Marquette Heights; three great-grandchildren, Isaiah Haynes Garcia, Gracie Haynes Garcia and Harper Curry and one sister, Melodye (Bill) Freesmeyer of Pittsfield. He also leaves his mother-in-law, Pauline Filarski of Pekin and his brothers and sisters in laws, Lori (Lenny) Wiseman of Pekin, Tony (Gail) Filarski of Clayton, Missouri, Connie (Jerry) Cox of Pekin, Don Filarski of Chicago, Gina Filarski, Garry “Buck” Filarski, Charles Filarski, Matthew (Natalie) Filarski, Andrew (Courtney) Filarski and Nick Filarski, all of Pekin and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Jeffery Ryan Barr on September 2, 1983; his father-in-law, Frank Filarski and two brothers-in-law, Frank Filarski, II and Steve Filarski.
Tim was a United States Marine Corps. Veteran of the Vietnam War, serving from August 7, 1965 until April 30, 1969 and attaining the rank of Corporal. Tim was a member and past commandant of the Tobin-Nanninga Marine Corps League Detachment #085 in Pekin and loved attending reunions with his Marine Corps Brothers.
He worked as a letter carrier with the United States Postal Service for 29 years, retiring in 2009. Tim was a past president of the Pekin Chapter of the National Association of Letter Carriers. He also was a past president of the Tazewell County Government Employees Credit Union and in earlier years had been a Boy Scout leader for Troop 181 in Pekin.
His passions were fishing and playing cards, especially playing Euchre with family and friends. He also was an avid fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
A private memorial service celebrating his life will be held Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Monsignor Timothy Nolan will officiate. There will be no visitation. Inurnment will follow the service in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Pekin, where military rites will be accorded by the United States Marine Corps and the Tazewell Military Rites Team.
