Born March 7, 1943 in Cocoa Beach, FL to Joseph Richard and Beryl T. (Counterman) Potts, he married Connie D. Mudd on August 16, 1990 in Pekin. She survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Shelley (David) Keyster of Pekin, Jill Potts of Garden, FL and Brandi (Scott) Rossman of Eureka; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandson and four siblings, Josie Shields of Pekin, Aurther “Buck” (Patty) Potts of Maryland, Mary Vogel of Canton and Don Potts of North Pekin.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Judy Kay Donaldson.
Tom served in the United States Navy.
He had worked for Caterpillar, Inc. for 36 years at the Proving Grounds in Germantown Hills, retiring in 2000. He also owned and operated Connie’s Southtown Bar in Pekin for seven years.
An outdoorsman, Tom enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also a Hot Rod enthusiast and enjoyed listening to George Strait.
Tom loved spending quality time with friends and family, especially his grandchildren.
His funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, December 16, 2017 at Preston-Hanley funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. The Rev. Judy Doyle will officiate. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Military rites will be provided by the United States Navy and the Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team. Cremation will be accorded following the services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Susan G. Komen Breast Center at 4911 N. Executive Dr. Peoria, IL 61614.
