Born June 7, 1933 in Peoria to Harold and Willa (James) Hewitt, she married Orval Paris on February 13, 1955 in Peoria. He survives.
Also surviving are five daughters, Kathi Lehman of Eureka, Nancy (Bob) Dunaway of East Peoria, Lori (Pat) Keefauver of East Peoria, Marcia (Mike) Horton of Washington, Joni (Dale) Shaver of Washington; twenty-seven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Donna Hewitt of Normal, Grace King of Muscatine, IA, Linda (Chuck) Linnenbrink of Galesburg; one brother-in-law, Larry (Darlene) Paris of CA and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one grandchild, Seth Rhodes and one brother, Jim Hewitt.
Shirley last worked for Pete Adams Insurance in Peoria until her retirement in 1992.
A loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Shirley loved time with her family and was known as “mom” to many. She enjoyed travel, going to shows in Branson and bus trips, reading and sewing.
She had been a volunteer at the Senior Center in Forsyth, MO. and a member of the Daughters of the Nile, TOPS, Inc. and an election judge in Peoria and Tazewell Counties.
Shirley had been a member of First Christian Church of Pekin and Ozark Mountain Christian Church in Forsyth. She was a former longtime member of Glen Oak Christian Church in Peoria. She was also was a member of the Choir and Hand Bell Choir in all three churches.
Her memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 11, 2017 at First Christian Church in Pekin. Rev. Hank Anderson and Rev. Karla Brown Smith will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
