Sandra Darlene Thompson

Born September 3, 1944 in Lincoln to Lester and Vera (Brown) Downing, she grew up in Mt. Pulaski and was active in the Christian church camps and programs. She attended Lincoln Christian College and later married Jeffry Thompson who was called to the ministry. They were married 58 years until her death.

Surviving are her husband, Jeffry; her children, Whitney Thompson and Joshua (Christina Lykins) Thompson, both of Pekin; five grandchildren, Breanne Miller, Ross Miller, Aleia Miller, Sophia Thompson and Brody Thompson and her brother, C. Wayne Downing.

Her parents preceded her in death.

She was a spiritual partner and ministry encouragement for Jeffry through five Christian churches over 55 years. Throughout her life she worked at several banks and enjoyed gardening, puzzles and caring for other.

Her two children, Whitney and Joshua took up much of her time. Between her children she and Jeff became foster parents for ten newborns over 3 years until their adoptions.

Her celebration of Life memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 25, 2022 at First United Methodist Church in Pekin. Pastor Jeffry Thompson, Pastor Jack Thompson and Pastor James C. McClarey will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Inurnment will be in Mt. Pulaski Cemetery at a later date. Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin is assisting the family with arrangements.
