Born January 18, 1923 in Banner to Frank E. and Alice Ann (Thompson) Ellis, she married Arthur Hootman on June 7, 1941 in Palmyra, Missouri. He died October 13, 2005 in Morton. She also was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; and one sister.
Surviving are three sons, Alan (Pam) Hootman of Pekin, Gary (Lynda) Hootman of Morton and Mark (Carol) Hootman of Washington; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Ruth was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pekin.
She had worked three years as a sales associate for Bergner's Department Store in Pekin. She also had served for more than 20 years as an election judge.
Ruth enjoyed playing with her Bunco Club and was a past member of the Blue Tri Club at the Pekin YWCA.
Ruth loved music and enjoyed playing several instruments including the organ, the piano and a ukulele.
She was an outgoing person who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 15, 2015 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Mark D. Friday will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens, Chapel of Dreams Mausoleum.
