Born January 19, 1942 in Pekin to Joseph Andrew and Carlotta Marie (Jackson) Schott, Sr., he married Judy K. Kinaman on June 7, 2013 in Carthage. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Ronald Joseph (Tracy) Schott, Jr. of Pekin and Jeremy Neal (Kelly) Schott of Springfield; three daughters, Tammy Lee Schott of Peoria, Carrie Lynn (Harvey) Wright of Farmington, Minnesota, and Tracy Lynn Schott of Pekin; two step-daughters, Jennifer Thomas of Grinnell, Iowa and Augusta Carson of Fort Madison, Iowa; one step-son, Geoffrey Thomas of Iowa; eleven grandchildren, Megan Schott, Sheldon Null, Christopher Fahnders, Charlie Fahnders, Lindsay Wright, Cora Knight-Schott, Rosslyn Tucker, Adriana Versendaal, Caleb Carson, and Logan Carson; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Nancy Tharp of Peoria; and one brother, Joseph (Chris) Schott, Jr. of Pekin.
His parents and one granddaughter, Ashley Schott, preceded him in death.
He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1959 to 1964.
Ron had worked in maintenance for Tazewell County Resource Center, retiring in 1991. He also had owned and operated Harper’s Gas Station in Pekin for several years and had worked for Pekin Hardwood.
He was of the Lutheran faith.
Ron enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing, and camping. He had played minor league hockey with the Pekin Stars. He also had his private pilot's license and had drag-raced at the Havana Drag Strip.
His visitation will be from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Monday, November 21, 2016 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. A graveside funeral will follow at 3 p.m. Monday at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin. The Rev. Jeff Leeman will officiate and military rites will be accorded by the United States Marine Corps and Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team.
