GLASFORD ~ Roger Gene Smallwood, 74, of Springfield, Tennessee, passed away Monday, November 28, 2022 at TriStar NorthCrest Medical Center Emergency Department in Springfield, Tennessee. He was formerly of Glasford.
Born July 17, 1948 in Pekin to Severn L. and Marie Anna (Welch) Smallwood, he married Marcia Diane Haynes on February 18, 1974 in Pekin. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Corey (Kathleen) Smallwood of Chicago, Darik (Shawn) Smallwood of Springfield, Tennessee and Casey (Amy) Smallwood of Naples, Texas; three grandchildren, Wyatt Smallwood, Cody Smallwood, both of Rusk, Texas and Zetta Smallwood of Chicago; one sister, Nancy (Les) Rosiere of Pekin and one brother, Dan (Vonnie) Smallwood of Junction City, Kentucky. He also leaves a dear friend that helped raise him, Carol Miller of Pekin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Kevin Smallwood; one brother, Ray Smallwood and four sisters, Anna Logan, Cleta Blackstock, Mary Sheets and Lois Hedrick.
He was a United States Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Roger was a mechanic for the City of Peoria serving the Police, Fire and Street departments for 30 years before retiring. In retirement, he was a driver for Kemper.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and attended services at the Pekin Ward. He was a longtime leader with the Boy Scouts through his church. Roger was an avid woodworker and also enjoyed putting together model cars.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 3, 2022 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Bishop Dave Dille will preside. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Maple Ridge Cemetery in Mapleton, with military rites accorded by the United States Army and Glasford American Legion Post 35.
