PEKIN ~ Robert D. Williams, 82, of Pekin, passed away at 7:15 a.m. Thursday, May 3, 2012 at his residence.
Born May 31, 1929 in Danville to Thomas and Mary (Cook) Williams, he married Verna "Pete" Spangler on October 24, 1952 in Bloomington, Indiana. She died September 10, 1983 in Washington. He later married Joan Yancey Overstreet on December 30, 1994 in North Pekin. She died July 30, 2006 in Peoria. He also was preceded in death by three sisters and five brothers.
Surviving are three daughters, Joyce (Dale) Libby of Lake Jackson, Texas, Jane Quarello of Pekin and Mary (Gary) Helferich of Washington; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Robert was a member of the Bradley Epworth United Methodist Church in Peoria.
He had served in the United States Marine Corps from 1946 to 1949.
Robert had worked for Caterpillar, Inc. for over 28 years, retiring from the Tech Center in Mossville on January 1, 1991.
He had been a member of the Ancient Free & Accepted Masons, Taylor Lodge #98, serving as master in 1977.
He loved the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears.
His graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 7, 2012 at Glendale Cemetery in Washington. Deacon Marty Pogioli will officiate. Military rites will be provided by the United States Marine Corps. and the Tazewell Military Rites Team. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
