Born February 3, 1948 in Peoria to Donna J. (Snyder) and Robert Michael McGann, Sr., he married G. Christine “Goldie” Birky on May 20, 1983 in Las Vegas. She survives.
Also surviving are his daughters, Kelly Pearce of Morton and Jennifer Alexander of Pekin; his son, James (Christine) Kemper of Peoria; and eight grandchildren, Emma, Carl, Isaiah, Adriana, Niki, Austin, Jacey and Kaden.
His parents preceded him in death.
Mick graduated from Spalding Academy in 1966, where he was very active in sports. He attended Saint Louis University on a baseball scholarship and graduated with honors in 1971 attaining a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting. Shortly after, he began a 36 year career at Pekin Insurance, where he made many life-long friends. He retired in 2009 as the director of pricing and regulatory filing. In his retirement he looked forward to his Tuesday breakfasts with Pekin Insurance boys.
Mick enjoyed the game of golf and played competitively in many tournaments throughout his life, but his favorite golfing partner was his late father, “Ace.” He enjoyed baseball (was a diehard Cardinals fan), basketball (was a season ticket holder for the Bradley games), and mostly a good game of gin rummy with his friends. He also liked football and was part of a fantasy football league for 32 years.
Mick was a member of Pekin Country Club for 35 years, where he served on the Board of Governors from 1994 to 1996. Additionally, he served on the United Way of Pekin Board of Directors and was a member of Pekin Moose Family Center 916.
His celebration of life gathering will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, April 30, 2021 at Pekin Country Club. Private inurnment will be in Prairie Haven Cemetery in Pekin, with Father Michael Andrejek officiating. Arrangements are by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
