Born September 16, 1932 in Pekin to Frank and Margaret (Bodi) Zimmerman, he married his wife Emma Jane June 18, 1954 in Baltimore, MD.
He is survived by his wife, 3 sons, Rick Zimmerman, Joe Zimmerman and Don Zimmerman; one daughter, Sharon (Frank) Sciortino all of Pekin; Granddaughters Jennifer Cunningham and Jane Zimmerman who he also raised. One sister Peggy Wasson, 7 Grandchildren and 5 Great-Grandchildren also survive him.
He was preceded in death by one sister Lois and one brother “Bud” Zimmerman.
Dick retired as an electrician from IBEW Local 34. In his youth he enjoyed boxing and was a Tri-county Golden Gloves Boxing Champ. He proudly served in the US Navy aboard the USS Watts as an electrician he had the honor of helping wire the jewel cases, including the Hope Diamond, of the US National Museum of Natural History in Washington DC. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and spending time with his family.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 24, 2018 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Michael McLeod will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin, with military rites provided by the Unites States Navy and the Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team.
