Born August 31, 1961 in Pekin to Robert Joseph and Patricia June (Hudson) Homerin, Sr., he married Charlena Dee Carswell on June 4, 1988 in Sheldon.
Surviving are his wife, Char Homerin of South Pekin; one daughter, Rebecca “Becky” (Tim Roberts) Homerin of Rantoul; one son, Jeromy Homerin of South Pekin; two granddaughters, Alexa June Roberts and Aubrey Rose Roberts; one brother, Robert (Neita) Homerin, Jr. of Centerton, Arkansas; and one sister, Cynthia (Ronald) Button of Creve Coeur.
His parents preceded him in death.
He was a 1979 graduate of Pekin Community High School and later graduated from the Police Training Institute at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Rich had worked at Arnett’s Grocery in Pekin for 10 ½ years, Central Transport Company in Decatur, E & K Market; and later as a dispatcher for the Tazewell/Pekin Consolidated Communications Center in Pekin from July 1, 1989 to October 15, 1993.
Rich joined the South Pekin Police Department in June of 1989 as a part-time police officer and was promoted to full-time Sergeant on October 17, 1993. Rich served and protected the citizens of South Pekin and surrounding communities for many years, last working December 15, 2019. Rich was a member of the South Pekin ESDA. He was a former volunteer fireman for the South Pekin Fire Department and a former part-time Green Valley Police Officer for several years.
Rich enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He was an avid reader, especially of Science Fiction books.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Al Ables will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with honors by area law enforcement officers. Cremation will be accorded following the funeral.
