Born December 26, 1942 in Peoria to Harry and Mary (Phillips) Rees, he married Karen L. Grace on August 27, 1965 in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
Surviving is his wife of 56 years, Karen of Pekin; two sons, Brian (Kim) Rees of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Joel (Jennifer) Rees of Jacksonville, Florida; one daughter, Rebecca (P.J.) Cottrell of Pekin; six grandchildren; one brother, William (Linda) Rees of Iowa and one sister, Jane Groet of Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Roger Rees.
Dan was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the United States Army.
He had worked at Chicago and North Western Railroad and Union Pacific Railroad as a welder for 40 years, before retiring in 2005.
A family man, Dan enjoyed watching his kids play sports, playing dart ball at the Miller Center, fishing and traveling. He also enjoyed drinking coffee with friends, watching football, wrestling and volunteering at Wildlife Prairie Park.
Dan was a longtime member at Pekin First United Methodist Church.
His memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 31, 2021 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Heather Robertson will officiate. Military rites will be provided by the United States Army and Tazewell Military Rites Team.
