Born April 13, 1926 in Kincaid to Mansueto and Mary (Cusada) Mularoni, he married Dorothy Ellen Tompkins on December 20, 1958 in Pekin. She died August 13, 2004. He was also preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Pamela Holcomb; one great-granddaughter, Anissa Pocklington; and one sister, Josephine Keller.
Surviving are one daughter, Cheryl (Charles) Pocklington of Green Valley; two sons, Richard (Jan Holland) Flanders of Fort Walton Beach, FL and Terry (Staci) Flanders of Pekin; eleven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A United States Navy veteran of World War II, he served from April 11, 1944 to June 5, 1946 and was aboard USS Landing Ship Medium 39. He later served in the Navy during the Korean War from September 14, 1950 to May 1, 1951 aboard the USS Vermillion.
Richard worked at Caterpillar, Inc. for 30 years, retiring in 1974 as a machinist.
Richard enjoyed fishing, hunting, mushrooming, dancing, and watching Westerns.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, January 26, 2018 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin, where military rites will be accorded.
