Born August 9, 1946 in Pekin to Junior W. and Ann (Marcho) Martin, he married Brenda Lee Sipes on September 17, 2011 in Pekin. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, Ronald Martin of Pekin; one daughter, Michelle (Tim Gregory) of Tremont; three stepsons, Jason (Sarah) Bontemps of Mackinaw, Jared (Shelbie) Bontemps of Tremont and Jeremiah (Krista) Bontemps of Morton; six grandchildren he was devoted to, Dominick (Evan) Mucciante, Macy (Jimmy Kramer) Martin, Conner Ogle, Lindy Martin, Nolan Ogle and Tate Martin; five step grandchildren, Shelby Bontemps, Gracie Bontemps, Koralyn Bontemps, Jackson Bontemps and Jacob Bontemps; one great-grandson, Theodore “Poncho” Kramer; one sister, Barbara Young of Pekin and one brother, Steve “Dago” Martin of Pekin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother-in-law, Ed Young and two brothers, David Martin and Bernard Martin.
He was a United States Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Richard worked at Caterpillar, Inc. for 32 years, retiring in 1996. He then worked for Pekin Roofing for 14 years, retiring for the second time in 2013.
He was a fan of old time country music and loved fishing, hunting and riding motorcycles. He also enjoyed doing home improvements and his family pets, Rosey his hound mix and Sally his cat.
He attended Pekin First Church of God.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 5, 2024 at Pekin First Church of God. Pastor Stephen P. Greer will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will follow in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin, with military rites accorded by the United States Army and the Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team. Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
