MARQUETTE HEIGHTS ~ Richard Charles “Rick” Litz, Jr., 59, of Marquette Heights, passed away at 9:27 a.m. Monday, May 11, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center Emergency Room in Clinton, Iowa after becoming ill at work.
Born July 24, 1955 in Pekin to Richard Charles and Nedra Scott (Wilkinson) Litz, he married Cindy Kaye Basden on October 10, 1979 in Pekin. She survives.
Also surviving are his mother, Nedra Litz of Pekin; one daughter, Brittany Litz of Marquette Heights; two sons, Cory Litz of Pekin and Colton Litz of Marquette Heights; two granddaughters, Kelsie Litz and Breanna Litz; one brother, Randy Litz of Pekin; one sister, Jeanne (Frank) Squire of Pekin; one niece, Stephanie Squire; one nephew, Cody Litz; and his grandmother, Helen Wise of Pekin.
His father preceded him in death.
A United States Air Force veteran, he served from November 12, 1974 to July 27, 1978.
Rick worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for 35 years, last working Monday as a signal maintainer.
He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen.
Rick was a fan of NASCAR especially Bill Elliott.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 15, 2015 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Michael McLeod will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Dillon Cemetery in Dillon, where military rites will be accorded.
