Born November 26, 1933 in Canton to Ralph P. and Vera F. (Evans) Lingenfelter, he married Carol “Jeanne” Tolliver on May 27, 1954 in St. David.
Surviving are his wife of 69 years; two sons, Timothy Lingenfelter of Tremont and Mark (Clara B) Lingenfelter of San Jose; six grandchildren, Kenneth Eugene (Andrea) Brown of Pekin, Amber (Mike) Williams of Hanna City, Nicole Lingenfelter, Ricky (Elyssa) Linenfelter and Angelica Lingenfelter, all of Pekin and Sean (Brittany) Lingenfelter of Peoria; 21 great-grandchildren, Gavin, Jaidin, Gage, Carter, Karma, Elizabeth, Austin, Lilly, C.J., Ivy, Aubri, Sabrina, Braylinn, Cole, Victor, Isaac, Adam, Adaline, Jesse, Derek and Matthew and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Dean Lingenfelter and three sisters, Doris Duryea, Linda Craig and infant sister, Betty.
He was employed with Caterpillar Inc. for 21 years, retiring in 1997 as a Boiler Room Fireman. He previously worked at CILCO for 20 years.
Richard was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the United States Navy aboard the USS Henley from 1952 to 1956.
A loving and devoted husband, dad, grandpa and great-grandpa, Richard enjoyed traveling and was a very talented musician, playing the Hawaiian steel guitar, banjo and the Dobro guitar. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family.
Richard was a longtime member of North Pekin Church of the Nazarene, where he had served for over 60 years as a teacher to the youth, teens and seniors up until three years ago. During his service, he also served as the Sunday School Superintendent.
He had also received the Second Mile Award for his service to the church. He and his wife received the Distinguished Service Award for all their service to the church.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at North Pekin Church of the Nazarene. Pastor Roger Davis will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday evening at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Additional visitation will be from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday morning at the church. Burial will be at Prairie Haven Cemetery in Pekin. Military rites will be provided by the United States Navy and Tazewell Military Rites Team.
