Born March 18, 1931 in St. Louis to Carl and Helen (Heitman) Portell, she married Edward John Shipman on July 15, 1949. He survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Susan (Richard) Dambold of Dallas, TX, Sallie (John) Watson of Tremont and Sandy (Brian) Swinford of Morton and six grandchildren, Darrah, Brett, Lyndsie, Paige, Beau and Breck.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her great-grandson, Miles Akin.
A homemaker, Patty also worked for Monsanto Chemical Company in St. Louis as a secretary for 4 years.
She enjoyed sewing, decorating and making crafts. She was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and enjoyed going to Sprint Car Races.
Patty had been a Girl Scout leader and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her family and going on family vacations.
She was a dedicated community volunteer and had served as a member of the Pekin YWCA Board of Directors and United Way of Pekin Board of Directors. She also was a member of the Pekin Hospital league and was an organizer of the annual hospital ball for the Pekin Hospital Foundation.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
