Born March 17, 1927 in Springfield to John and Stella (McNulty) Shaughnessy, Sr., he married Rita Edington in September of 1951. She died on June 19, 1992. He then married Madonna (Ryan) Swoik on September 17, 1993 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, Patrick (Karen) Shaughnessy of TX; two daughters, Cathleen (Michael) Biehl of FL and Maureen Shaughnessy of WI: three grandchildren, Andrew Shaughnessy and Terry Shaughnessy, both of TX and Mick Biehl of Chicago; three step-sons, Doug (Vicki) Swoik, Craig (Shirley) Swoik and Terry Swoik, all of Pekin; two step-daughters, Debbie (Dave) Smith of Pekin and Diane (Tracy) Noll of IN; fifteen step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Shaughnessy of CA and a sister, Therese Gilroy of IA. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Terry Shaughnessy; one step-son, Kevin Swoik; one brother, John Shaughnessy and three sisters, Ursula Layendecker, Maureen Hennebry and Sister Alice Shaughnessy, OSU.
Pat served in the United States Navy and was a World War II veteran. He graduated in 1949 from St. Louis University. He worked for Allis Chalmers and later as a comptroller for Allen Bradley in Milwaukee, WI, retiring in 1992.
Pat enjoyed playing golf and in his later years watching golf and the Green Bay Packers. He loved to sing and his voice could always be heard at daily morning Mass and on Sundays. He was very proud of his Irish heritage but most of all he loved his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Pat was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin. He also was a member of Knights of Columbus Archbishop Schlarman Council #3507 and a member of William Schaefer American Legion Post 44, both in Pekin.
His funeral Mass will be at noon Thursday, June 12, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin. Father Michael Andrejek will officiate. Visitation will be from 10 to 11:15 a.m. Thursday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. The recitation of the Rosary will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Cremation will be accorded following the funeral Mass and burial of his cremated remains will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pekin.
