Born May 30, 1940 in Tennessee to Robert and Brownie (Sharp) Avritt, she married Leonard Jacks on December 29, 1958 in Pekin. He died December 6, 1973 in Pekin. She later married Thomas Burns.
Surviving are one daughter, Anita (Christopher) Pounds of Creve Coeur; two grandsons, Anthony Pounds of Creve Coeur and Christopher (Shasta) Pounds of Pekin and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Margaret Dudley, Mary Beeney and Anita Avritt, in infancy.
Mildred was a longtime cook in the area, retiring in December of 2012. She last worked for more than 10 years at Ernies in Pekin and previously had worked 11 years at the Holiday Inn and 5 years at Bob Evans.
She loved to knit, crochet and babysitting her great-grandchildren.
A service celebrating her life will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at Glendale Memorial Gardens Chapel Mausoleum in Pekin. The Rev. Judy Doyle will officiate. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin. Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin is handling arrangements.
