Born August 8, 1955 in Canton to Melvin and Shirley (Stickles) Schoonover, he married Mary Louise Morton on November 8, 1985 in Pekin. Louise is doing well and continues to live in Pekin.
Also surviving are his mother; two daughters, Samantha Schoonover and Tabitha Schoonover, both of Pekin; one granddaughter, Joy Williams of Pekin; one brother, Craig Schoonover of Sunnyville, California; one half sister, Melanie Schoonover; step-mother, Karen Schoonover; step-brothers, Denny and Robby; step-sisters, Peggy and Danielle; nieces, Ashley and Jessica and niece, Nika Schoonover of Sunnyville, California.
He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Wayne Schoonover; one son, Michael Wayne Schoonover; paternal grandparents, Earl and Estella Schoonover and maternal grandparents, Ralph and Elsie Barnhart.
After graduation from Pekin Community High School in 1973, Schoony served his country in the United States Navy.
He worked for Midwest Generation at the Commonwealth Power Plant in Pekin for 33 years, last working in the control room. He was close to his many brothers at the plant who have become family to him over the years.
He was affiliated with the New Life Fellowship Church in Pekin.
Schoony lived to ride and loved Harley Davidson motorcycles and the art of motorcycle maintenance. His greatest joys in life were spending time camping with his family, and the brothers, sisters, daughters and sons of his extended family.
He was a retired member of Satan's Bros., and a former member of A.B.A.T.E. and Hogs.
Schoony always woke up with a smile on his face, and cherished every moment with his four favorite girls.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Mark Utech will officiate. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. prior to the funeral. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Pekin, where military rites will be provided by the United States Navy and Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team.
