Born November 19, 1929 in White Hall to John W. and Ethel Mae (Pinkerton) Murray, she married Dwain A. "Curley" Kiefer on May 27, 1966 in Pekin. He died May 30, 2002 in Manito. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one infant daughter (Diane Beebe), and one sister (Mable Wheeler).
Surviving are one son, Greg (Kathy) Beebe of Manito; one daughter, Donna Yonker of Manito; six grandchildren, Terry (Robin) Beebe and Lori Beebe, both of Forest City, Heidi Bennett of Chicago, Jodi (Gary) Traw of Mackinaw, and Stephanie Bennett and Shaun Bennett, both of East Peoria; three step-grandchildren, Floyd (Dallas) Keyes and Sarah Keyes, both of Pekin, and Joel (Holly) Keyes of Manito; ten grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She also leaves very special friends, Ryburn and Hubertine Dean of Pekin.
Mary Lou worked for Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (IPMR) for 29 years, retiring in 1992 as the office manager at the at Pekin Hospital office. Previously, she worked for Pekin Hospital.
She attended Spring Lake Missionary Church in Manito. She was a member of Pekin Eagles Aerie 1869 Ladies Auxiliary and the Red Hat Society Cutie Pootie Chapter in Pekin and We Can Can Chapter in Bartonville. Her Red Hat name was Flaming Fluzie of Sunset Lake.
Her memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 13, 2009at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. Pastor Tom Schakat will officiate. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial of will be in Belltown Cemetery at a later date.
