Born August 22, 1928 in Sigel, Pennsylvania to Chester Lee and Alberta Rae (Humbert) Fox, she married Thelmer Anderson Cline on October 30, 1948 in Alexandria, Virginia. He died September 25, 2011. She was also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Lee Fox, Morris Fox, and Albert Fox; and five sisters, Doris Lindy, Dora Haag, Joanna Wray, Marjorie Ann McGuire, and Donna Meyer.
Surviving are two daughters, Nancy L. Garant of Creve Coeur, Gayle L. Godbey of South Pekin; one son, Thelmer A. (Karen) Cline, Jr. of Pekin; seven grandchildren, Tracy (Mike) Stout, David (Tina) Garant, Nicole (Jason) Harper, Kerry Cline, Ashley Hays, T.J. (Samantha) Hays, and Emiley (Anthony) Mudd; twelve great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Evelyn J. (Earl) Hassell of Louisiana.
Mary worked as a Teacher’s Aide and Librarian for 18 years for Pekin Public Schools District 108, retiring in 1982. Previously, she had worked for the FBI in the 1940’s under J. Edgar Hoover.
She was a member of Pekin Bible Church, Aquatic Swim classes at the YWCA, and the Christian Women’s Club. She was a past member of the PTA at Washington and Jefferson Schools and was an election judge for 25 years. Mary enjoyed working on family genealogy, sewing clothes, quilting, and gardening.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and also from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday, both at the funeral home. Burial will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
