Born January 3, 1933 in Pekin to John Adam and Ethel (Genda) Helman, she married William F. Comstock on September 28, 1951 in Pekin. He survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Cynthia A. “Cindy” (Larry) Long of Pekin; two sons, William J. (Johl) Comstock and Robert A. (Naomi) Comstock, both of Pekin; eight grandchildren, Tom (Stephanie) Sullivan, Tim (Lindsay) Sullivan, Cody Comstock, all of Pekin, Courtney Comstock of Champaign, Connor Comstock, Allie Comstock, Paul Flores and Alan Comstock, all of Pekin; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty J. Maquet of Pekin. She also leaves a granddaughter-in-law, Nicole Sullivan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Tyler Steven Sullivan on November 9, 2010 in Peoria; one brother, John F. Helman and two sisters, Lois M. Hutchison and Joan E. Percefull.
Lorraine worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for H.R. McGarvey Welding & Industrial Supply from 1952 to 1957. She later worked as the office manager for D.U.I. Countermeasures in Pekin from 1987 to 1996.
A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, her interests were centered on her family. She enjoyed travel with her husband, especially to Florida and loved to journal. She was a former president of the Douglas School Mother’s Club and a member and past president of the Marine Corps League Ladies Auxiliary. She was a former longtime election judge for Pekin Precinct #18 and a member of the Democratic Women’s Club.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Pekin.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 16, 2016 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. The Rev. Dr. Joel Catlin will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
