Born June 30, 1951 in Eureka to Max and Wilma Janiece Hoerr Ales, she married Harlan K. Carter on November 28, 1975 in Pekin. He survives.
Also surviving are her mother and step-father, Wilma and Bill Melton of Pekin; one daughter, Kimberly J. (Tony) Galetti of Pekin; two step-sons, Harlan K., Jr. (Lori) Carter of Hartsburg and Timothy A., Sr. (Cheryl) Carter of Delavan; one step-daughter, Becki M. (Robert) Lanzerra of San Jose; two grandchildren, Amber R. Carter Galetti and Noah A. Galetti, both of Pekin; seven step-grandchildren; one brother, Kevin G. (Jodie) Ales of South Pekin; and two sisters, Catherine L. (Richard) Enlow of Springfield, Missouri and Christine M. Willis of Pekin.
Her father preceded her in death,
A homemaker, Karen had worked at the snack bar at Sunset Lanes in Pekin and later in the media center at Lincoln School in Pekin, where she also volunteered on the play ground.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Pekin.
Karen enjoyed growing roses, keeping her home, writing poetry with several poems being published, and painting.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 20, 2005 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. Pastor Mark D. Friday will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.
