MARQUETTE HEIGHTS ~ Joseph L. Covington, 68, of 423 Joliet Road, passed away at 5:50 p.m. Saturday, May 29, 2010 at the Pekin Hospital Emergency Room.Born Nov. 16, 1941 in Kansas City, KS to Joseph L. and Margaret L. (Bredeimeir) Covington, he married Nancy Sidebottom on July 9, 1961 in Eldon, MO. She survives.Also surviving are two daughters, Connie (Ron) Wilkins of Macks Creek, MO and Carolyn (Scott) Jackson of Pekin; two sons, Alan (Norma) Covington of Radcliff, KY and Joe R. Covington of Marquette Heights; four grandchildren; three brothers, Donald (Pat) Covington of Rantoul, KS, Glen (Pat) Covington of Lake of the Ozarks, MO and David (Ellen) Covington of Lake Ozark, MO and one sister, Dixie (Charles) Knouch of Kansas City, MO.He was preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter, Angel Alice Ann Wilkins.Joe had served in the United States Air Force.He worked for Caterpillar, Inc. for 32 years in the skilled trades, retiring in 1998.Joe enjoyed woodworking, computers, gardening and especially spending time with his grandchildren.A member of UAW Local 974, Joe had proudly served on their election committee and retirees board.His memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, June 4, 2010 at the UAW Local 974 Hall in East Peoria. There will be no visitation. Cremation has been accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.Memorial contributions may be made to the Heather Henninger Scholarship Fund in care of the UAW Local 974, 3025 Springfield Road, East Peoria, IL 61611.
