He was born May 31, 1926 in South Pekin, IL to Charles and Grace (Rowbottom) Baker. He married Edna Lowery in Dallas, TX on September 22, 1944. She preceded him in death in 1992. He then married Mildred Herring Daily on February 13, 1999 and she preceded him in death in 2008.
Also preceding in death was his grandson, Shawn Michael Black in 2007.
Surviving are his children, Sue Davis of Springfield, IL, Louise Baker of East Peoria, Lynette Baker of Ottumwa, IA, MaryLynn )James) Goss of Pekin, Lloyd (Marla) Baker of Mapleton, and Margaret Dowell of Pekin; 12 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and his sister, Helen Callaway of Pekin.
John was a WWII US Navy veteran serving aboard the USS Trenton and the USS Adirondack.
After the war he went to work at Caterpillar where he worked until his retirement in 1982.
He will be remembered as a hard working man who loved both his family and his church.
Funeral Services will be at 2:00 pm Friday, July 8th at Davison-Fulton Woolsey Funeral Home in Pekin with the Rev. Ken Linder officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral and burial with Navy funeral honors will follow at Maple Ridge Cemetery near Mapleton.
Memorials as suggested to the Victory Baptist Church Sunday School.
