JoAnn was born May 3, 1944, to Robert and Ilene (Rumler) Selby in Berwyn. Later in life, she would move to Las Vegas, Nevada, where she met her husband, Ernest. They married on November 15, 1990 and would share their life together for 29 years. While in Las Vegas, JoAnn and Ernest worked in the hospitality industry for many years. When her husband passed, she moved back home to Illinois to be near family.
JoAnn enjoyed cooking, making sweet treats for family and neighbors, and traveling to see family. One of her favorite things to do was have a girl’s lunch with her daughter, sister, and nieces, and loved when family came to visit. Her most pride and joy were her grandsons, Nicholas and DJ. She always lit up when DJ would come to see her or she talked to Nicholas by phone.
JoAnn is survived by her daughter, Jodie (Don, Jr.) Jacobs of Pekin; two grandsons, DJ Jacobs of Pekin and Nicholas Kotinek-Gibson of Texas; brother, Ronald Selby of Peoria; two sisters, Edith (Stan) Budyn of Topeka and Nancy Patterson of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; her step children, Tony, Nasha, Adrian and Alica; brothers-in-law, Anthony and Rance; sisters-in-law, Lillian and Vivian and many nieces and nephews.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Golden; her son, Jon Gibson; her parents, Robert and Ilene Selby; three brothers, Kenneth, Robert and Randy Selby and two sisters, Joyce Pherigo and Carol Morris.
No services are planned at this time. JoAnn arranged to have her body donated to medical science.
