James "Jim" Ray Uphoff

Born October 9, 1954 in Peoria to Donald Jacob “Jake" and Irma (Kroepel) Uphoff, he married Suzanne L. Jenkins on October 26, 1974 in Glasford.

Surviving are his wife of 49 years; his mother, Irma of Peoria; two daughters, Kristin (Bill) Hedge and Jaimie Uphoff, both of Mapleton and four grandchildren, Tyler Hedge, Alaina Hedge, Luke Runser and Evelyn Runser, all of Mapleton.

He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Gary Uphoff.

Jim was a former member of the Timber-Hollis Fire Dept., where he volunteered for 15-plus years and was also a former member and past president of the Illini Bluffs Board of Education in Glasford.

As a member of the IBEW Local 34, he worked for Schaefer Electric in Peoria for 38 years as a journeyman wireman and estimator. He retired in 2015. He served as the training director at the Joint Electrical Apprenticeship and Training Committee for many years.

A loving and dedicated husband, dad, grandpa and son, Jim’s true passions in life were his family and his farm. Jim took great pride in his community and always strived to offer help where needed. His kind, patient nature will be greatly missed.

His graveside service will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday, August 16, 2024 at St. Peter Lutheran Church Cemetery in Glasford. Pastor Kathy Barrett will officiate. Private visitation will be at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
