Born March 27, 1938 in Peoria to James E. and Loretto (Costello) Dooley, he married Jean Marie Borg on July 16, 1966 in Peoria. She died January 9, 2021.
He was also preceded by his parents; one sister; one sister-in-law; one brother- in- law and one nephew.
Surviving are two loving children, James “Jed” Dooley of Brimfield and Jean “Dolly” (Matthew) Campen of Creve Coeur; two brothers- in- law and several nieces and nephews.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy, where he was a Seabee.
Jim worked at CILCO as a lineman and crew leader for 21 years.
He was a 55-plus year member of the IBEW Local 51. He served in many rolls in the local unit and was president then becoming a business representative. He later returned to construction during the latter part of his career.
An avid boater, Jim was a longtime member of the East Peoria Boat Club. He loved watching and listening to the Chicago Cubs. He had many friends and never knew a stranger and was willing to help anyone he could. He also loved going to Florida in the winter with Jeannie while soaking up the sun and hanging with friends.
His graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 18, 2023 at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in West Peoria. Friends and family are encouraged to attend. There will be no visitation. Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Creve Coeur.
