James Lee Counterman

Born April 12, 1948 in Pekin to James Russell and Helen (Penning) Counterman, he married Vicki Sue May on November 11, 1966 in Pekin. She survives.

Also surviving are three children, Darrell (Valerie) Counterman of Clinton, Missouri, Corinna (Daniel) Johnson and Clint Counterman, both of Pekin; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two siblings, Wayne Counterman of Pekin and Danny Counterman of Kansas and his German Shepard, Sassy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Richard “Ricky” Counterman and four siblings, Sharon Fleckingstein, Virginia Shepherd, Lois Burrels and Bob Counterman.

James was a veteran of the United States Army and worked as an assembler for Caterpillar Inc.

James loved fishing and camping at Truman Lake in Missouri and restoring old cars.

He was a former member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #1869, Pekin Moose Lodge #916 and National Street Rod Association.

A celebration of life gathering will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 13, 2024 at The Marine Corps League in Pekin. Cremation has been accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.

Memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Midwest Affiliate, 530 Northeast Glen Oak Avenue, Peoria, Illinois 61637.
