Born September 23, 1916 in Detroit, Michigan to Henry and Lena (Strenkowski) Papp, he married Margaret Revers on June 24, 1939 in Detroit. She died August 16, 1991 in Lexington, Michigan. He later married Florence (Blake) Stetson on June 6, 1992 in Port Huron, Michigan. She survives.
Also surviving are one step-daughter, Patricia (Gordon) Petry of Pekin; one step-son, Greg (Patricia) Stetson of Colorado Springs, Colorado; five step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; one half-brother, Paul Burkell of Fort Myers, Florida; two nieces, Lynne (David) Robertson and Nancy (James) McMahon and two nephews, George (Mary) Muster and Gary (Evaline) Muster, all of Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; three half-sisters and three half-brothers.
He was a World War II Army veteran.
Following his retirement, George wintered in Fort Myers for many years.
George was a member of the Kewanee Lodge 159, Ancient Free & Accepted Masons. He also was a member of Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Peoria and the Mohammed Temple, Shrine in Bartonville.
He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Peoria.
A memorial Mass will be held in Michigan at a later date. Cremation has been accorded and burial of ashes will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Port Huron, Michigan. Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Creve Coeur Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
