Born May 19, 1946 in Rock Island to Charles William Sr. and Ethel Lucille (Davis) Kinney, he married Elva Bultinck on April 24, 1965 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Moline. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Terry Kinney of North Pekin and Thomas Kinney of Hendersonville, Tennessee; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and three siblings, Herbert (Carolyn) Kinney of Meridian, Idaho, Gerald (Penny) Kinney and Sandra Henderson, both of East Moline.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Charles Kinney, Jr. and Dale Russell Kinney; one sister, Joyce Marsh and one sister- in-law, Marilyn Kinney.
Gary was self employed as a mechanic and then later a contractor, retiring August 31, 2009. He had previously worked as a welder.
He enjoyed fishing at Oak Run and on the many family vacations to Wisconsin, Minnesota and Florida. He also enjoyed tinkering and restoring things, especially lawn mowers. He loved Star Trek and anything science fiction.
Cremation has been accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. A celebration of Gary’s life will be held from 1 to 3 pm, Saturday, July 27, 2024 at the Miller Center in Pekin.
