Born August 6, 1949, in Pekin, he was the son of Harold and Mamie (Piro) Hill. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert “Bob” Hill and James Hill and two nieces, Janice Martin and Susan Foster.
Surviving are two sisters, Carole (Allen) Hill Martin of Pekin and Mary Ann (Lee) Hill Schwer-Costley of St. Louis, Missouri and several nieces and nephews, including Linda Martin of Pekin.
Gary was a veteran of the United States Army.
He enjoyed watching Tom Selleck in Magnum, P.I., Jean-Claude Van Damme movies, western movies, drinking coffee, going to the library and ending his day with a beer. He always let his nieces and nephews watch Night Rider while babysitting until their parents pulled into the driveway, then rushed them off to bed before they made their way in.
Gary was a self-employed handyman and enjoyed crafting anything, especially knifes.
He was of the Catholic faith.
His graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday April 17, 2025 at Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin. Pastor Brad Martin will officiate. Arrangements have been entrusted by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
