Born January 16, 1944 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Paul and Mildred (Carlson) Matheney, he married Linda Kriner on October 17, 1961 in Kirksville, Missouri.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Jacque (Steve) Jeckel of Pekin and Jane (Gerald) Rood of O’Fallon, Missouri; two sons, Michael (Lynnor) Matheney of The Woodlands, Texas and Wes (Mary Beth) Matheney of Western Springs; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and one brother, Jim (Judy) Matheney of Ottumwa, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Jack received his Bachelor of Science Degree in psychology in 1966 from Missouri State University, where he later received his Master of Arts Degree in guidance and counseling. He earned his Doctorate in Educational Administration and Foundations in 1984 from Illinois State University and completed Mediation Training at Northwestern University, School of Professional Studies in Chicago.
He had worked at Peoria Public Schools from 1967 till his retirement in 2003, serving as a school psychologist and Assistant Director of Special Education and Assistant Superintendent for Special Services/Director of Special Education.
Since 2003, Jack has served as a special education administrator for Special Education Association of Peoria County (SEAPCO).
He was a mentor for administrators and directors in the districts that he served.
Jack was a devoted husband and father and dedicated himself to caring for his wife, Linda. He loved to garden, bird watch, golf and fish.
Jack was a member of Bridgeway Community Church in Pekin, where his memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, August 24, 2018. Pastor Jeff Stark will officiate. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Inurnment will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
