Donald Edward Pugh, 84, Washington, Illinois, finally received his well deserved angel wings at 3:58 am Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Washington Christian Village. He left behind a house chocked full of memories and a whole lot of stuff that his children have no idea what to do with. Born July 7, 1933 in Muncie, Indiana to Everett C. and Harriet I. Pugh, he married Ethel L. Haynes November 17, 1972. She preceded him in death. He is survived by his sweetheart, Dorena Coltrin. Also surviving are two sons, David (Rhonda) of Peoria and Randy of Bellevue; one daughter, Elisa (Terry) Hodges of Pekin; one brother, Harold (Grace) of East Peoria; five grandchildren: Brandon, Emily, Ashley, Cameron and Melissa; many nieces, nephews and an enormous Haynes family that took him and his older children into their family and treated them as their own. One brother, Leroy, and one son, Adrian, greeted him in heaven with his mother and father. Donald was a United States Air Force veteran serving as an airplane mechanic during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a switchman for the Rock Island Railroad for 20 years, Caterpillar in the early 80's and he retired from Alcoa Building Products in Princeville July 1996. He also was a member and previously worked as a custodian for Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Peoria and a courtesy driver for Jim Macomb Chevrolet in Peoria. Donald was a former member of the Pekin Moose Lodge. He passed on to his children his smile, laugh, enthusiasm for the outdoors and a very large, gentle heart. His children were also instilled with his love for weather, animals, trains, planes and automobiles (mainly Chrysler and Dodges). He also enjoyed the Illinois State Fair, country music and dancing. The dancing gene bypassed all of his children, unfortunately. He was a longtime Cubs fan and loved his ice cream with chocolate syrup. He will be deeply missed by family and friends; however, his smile and laugh will be shining on us every day from above. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Friday, January 12, 2018 at Davison-Fulton Woolsey Funeral Home in Pekin. Pastor Jim Gorby will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Mapleton. Visitation will be 4:00 to 6:00 pm Thursday, January 11, 2018 and one hour prior to the service on Friday, all at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or American Diabetes Association.
